Becoming an Official featuring Norma Lachance

VPSC will be hosting a 30 minute session with guest speaker Norma Lachance for families to learn and understand the importance of becoming an official and what it means for their children as they progress in swimming.

Norma Lachance is a professional Life Coach living in West Kelowna BC. She has been involved in with competitive swimming since 2000 when her children were young in an Age Group Swim Club just like VPSC.

Norma’s background was in competitive soccer so when her children first became involved with swimming, she did not know anything about competitive swimming. She however worked her way up to becoming a Level V Referee by 2013. Her youngest finished varsity swimming in 2015 and Norma is still very involved in supporting clubs across BC, Alberta and nationally, volunteering her time at meets. She sat on the Swim Alberta Board for seven years and has been Meet Manger for the Mel Zajac international event that is hosted at UBC. Norma has served as National Meet director for Westerns twice and was the meet chair for the first Para Pan PaC competition in 2009.  She has been team manger on provincial tours and camps as well as Mare Norstrum (France) and a sport tour in China.

Norma is going to talk to us about why becoming an official and working your way up the Levels and across the clinics is important. She will give us some tips on how we as parents can support our club to be the best that it can be. Her dedication to swimming in general is remarkable and  we are so happy to have her here to speak to you tonight.

Attend this session to learn more about the importance of officiating, and to get the chance to ask an experienced official any questions you might have.
