Patrick Paradis

Head Coach
VPSC Program Director
National Groups

Coach Patrick Paradis is now in his third season with VPSC, bringing more than 30 years of high-performance coaching experience to the program. A proven leader in both club and university environments, Patrick has built, revitalized, and sustained successful swimming programs across Canada.

After three seasons as Head Coach and Director of Performance with Université Laval’s Rouge et Or program in Quebec, Patrick returned to British Columbia, where he previously served as Head Coach and Director of Swimming for Chena Swim Club from 2010 to 2020. During his tenure at Chena, he led the club to its first-ever Provincial Team Championship in 2013, grew the competitive program from 90 to 150 swimmers, and guided the club through nine consecutive years of budget surplus while mentoring multiple assistant coaches into head coaching roles.

At Université Laval, Patrick quickly re-established the Rouge et Or as a national contender, elevating the program into a top-10 USPORT team in just three seasons. Under his leadership, swimmers broke numerous program and provincial records, and the team regained confidence and competitive identity at the national level.

Patrick’s coaching career began in Ontario, where he worked with four programs between 1995 and 2010. Across all levels of the sport, he has coached athletes to Club, Provincial, and National record performances, with many swimmers representing Canada internationally at both Junior and Senior levels – often returning home with medals.

In addition to his club and university success, Patrick has contributed to the Canadian national coaching staff at major international competitions, including the 2022 Commonwealth Games Preparation Camp, the 2018 World Junior Open Water Championships, the 2017 UANA Junior Open Water Championships, and the 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.

Known for his methodical, athlete-centered approach, Patrick emphasizes purposeful training, honesty, and partnership with his athletes. He believes in developing the person first, building confidence through clear planning, and creating environments where excellence becomes sustainable.

Coach Patrick is excited to apply his experience, leadership, and long-term vision to VPSC as the program continues its pursuit of becoming one of the strongest clubs in the country.
